Rafael Alvira Domínguez (born October 24, 1942 in Madrid ) is a Spanish philosopher and social scientist.

Life

Rafael Alvira studied Philosophy and Literature at the University of Navarra . He received his PhD in philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He completed further study visits in Germany, Italy, Austria, France and the USA.

In 1966 he became an assistant professor at the Complutense University of Madrid ; In 1975 he was appointed titular professor of philosophy and metaphysics . In 1980 he moved to the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Navarra in Pamplona . There he was Dean, Deputy Dean, Director of the Department of Philosophy of Education , Director of the Department of Practical Philosophy and Rector of the Department of Music. In addition, he held the professorship for social theory at the engineering faculty. Alvira has also taught at the Escuela Diplomática de Madrid , the Complutense University of Madrid and the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander. He was a founding member and director of the Instituto Empresa y Humanismo (Institute for Enterprise and Humanism) at the University of Navarra.

He holds associate professorships at the University of Mendoza (Argentina) and the University of Montevideo (Uruguay). He was visiting professor at the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico (1985, 1987, 1997), the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina (1986), the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, USA (1991), the Universidad de los Andes (Chile ) in Santiago de Chile and others.

The scientific focus of his work is the philosophy of antiquity , anthropology and political philosophy , in particular the elements of civil society , the knowledge society and working society in the age of globalization , the structure of the new society and the family in society. He is involved in numerous national and international initiatives and scientific representations. He is a member of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) .
