Education concept
An educational concept (also: an educational philosophy , an educational theory ) is a more or less consistent theoretical draft based on certain supra-individual value principles or educational norms , an idea of education . One of the hallmarks of a educational program include certain educational goals and specific educational methods and means of education .
The history of education can be described as a history of the emergence, change and decline of educational concepts.
Definition
Although it is a basic pedagogical term that is widely used in the literature, educators have rarely tried to define it precisely. The lemma does not even appear in some real pedagogical lexicons . Wherever definitions are attempted, they usually remain rather vague, as in Vĕra Vojtová, Wolf Bloemers and David Johnstone, who describe educational concepts as the “ theory ” on which an educational practice is based.
Education concepts are based either on cultural traditions (e.g. Christian education ) or on scientific or ideological ideas and theories (examples: Montessori education , Waldorf education ). The spectrum ranges from historically grown, extensive and complex educational philosophies with a rich literature (e.g. reform pedagogy ) to the often eclectic requirements created by individual service providers.
As Harm Paschen has pointed out, educational concepts are characterized by the fact that they claim deficits in other common educational concepts, especially at the time of their emergence, and have alternatives.
Definition of terms
Educational concepts must be distinguished from parenting styles , such as B. Authoritative upbringing , which are not necessarily based on specific educational goals or norms.
In contrast to pure educational methods, techniques and strategies (such as confrontational pedagogy , non-violent communication or work with boys ), educational concepts not only cover certain problem and behavioral areas, but also the entire socialization (examples: character education , education for independence , philanthropy , liberation pedagogy , education for socialist personality , anti-authoritarian education , anti-pedagogy ).
Teaching concepts are more aimed at education than upbringing.
