Rafael Arévalo González (born July 4, 1986 in Sonsonate ) is a Salvadoran tennis player .

Career

Arévalo has been taking part in ITF professional tournaments since 2003 . He predominantly plays future tournaments, of which he won two singles and five doubles between 2005 and 2009.

On March 31, 2008, the World Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that Arévalo would receive one of two invitations to be awarded for the men's singles at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . This made him the first tennis player from El Salvador to represent his country in this sport at the Olympic Games. In the first round he won against South Korean Lee Hyung-taik, who was far better in the world rankings, with 4: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4. In the second round he was then eliminated with 2: 6, 4: 6 against Roger Federer .

Since November 22nd, 2010 Arévalo is no longer in the double world rankings and since May 19, 2014 also no longer in the single world rankings. In 2015 and 2016, however, he played in the Davis Cup. Arévalo has been a member of the Salvadoran Davis Cup team since 2003 and has since played 41 games for the selection. With a total of 52 wins, he is the most successful player in his country.
