Rafael Campo Pomar (born October 24, 1813 in Sonsonate , † March 1, 1890 in Puerto de Acajutla ) was President of El Salvador from February 12, 1856 to February 27, 1857 .

Life

His parents were Juana María Pomar and Pedro Campo y Pérez de Arpa.

In April 1854 an earthquake caused great damage in San Salvador , whereupon the seat of government was moved to Cojutepeque and the founding of Nueva San Salvador, today's Santa Tecla , was decreed to build it up as the capital.

The conservative Partido Republicano put Campo against his will for election as president of El Salvador. He won the election and was named president on January 30, 1856. He resigned but was forced to take office on February 12, 1856.

In this short time he gave the rebuilding of the city of San Salvador significant impetus.

Talks have started about how the states of Central America intend to counter the invasion by the filibuster pirates around William Walker .

On April 8, 1856, he convened a junta for state finance and assigned her responsibility for public works and military equipment. From May 12 to July 19, 1856 he handed over his office to Francisco Dueñas Díaz . On February 27, 1857, the Asamblea General , Constituent Assembly appointed a junta made up of Colonel José María San Martín y Ulloa , General Gerardo Barrios and Manuel Rafael Reyes to lead the state. In November 1857, this junta decreed a code of civil procedure, a code of criminal procedure and other executive orders. On January 25, 1858, the Asamblea General , the constituent assembly, declared Miguel Santín del Castillo as elected president and General Joaquín Eufrasio Guzmán as his deputy.
