Rafael Martínez Alba

Rafael Martínez Alba (born June 9, 1896 in Concepción de la Vega ; † May 11, 1989 ibid) was a Dominican conductor and music teacher.

Alba studied music in the music academy founded by Francisco Soñé and became a member of the town band at the age of fourteen. He founded the Academia José Reyes , which was the successor to Soñé's Music Academy, and taught there for forty-four years. As the founder of the Orquesta La Estudiantina and the Orquesta La Mozart , two string orchestras, he shaped musical life in his hometown. For forty years he also worked as the director of the city's Banda de Música .
