Raffi Hovannisian

Raffi Hovannisian ( Armenian Րաֆֆի Հովհաննիսյան ; born November 20, 1959 in Fresno , United States ) is an Armenian politician , former founding chairman of the Liberal Erbe party , and former Foreign Minister of Armenia .

Life

Hovannisian's father is the historian Richard G. Hovannisian . From November 7, 1991 to October 16, 1992 he was Foreign Minister of Armenia under President Levon Ter-Petrosyan . His successor in the office of Armenian Foreign Minister was Arman Kirakosjan . In 1994 he founded the Armenian Center for National and International Studies in Yerevan . Hovannisian ran in the Armenian presidential election on February 18, 2013, but lost to incumbent Serzh Sargsyan of the Republican Party of Armenia . Since the parliamentary elections in Armenia in 2017 , his party Erbe has not been represented in the Armenian parliament and did not run for the early parliamentary election in Armenia in 2018 . At the end of March 2019, Hovannisian was replaced as party chairman by Andranik Grigorjan .

Hovannisian is married, has five children and lives with his family in Yerevan.
