from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vösendorf refinery was an oil refinery in Vösendorf right on the city limits of Vienna . It was built in 1921 and shut down in 1958 as part of the construction of a large refinery in Schwechat .

history

In 1921 the company Danunia Mineröl GesmbH. built a refinery in Vösendorf. It was located west of today's Wiener Neustädter Strasse on an area of 14.5 hectares . It was sold to Austria Petroleum AG as early as 1925 , which shortly thereafter merged with Fanto AG . After the connection in 1938, the refinery was taken over by the Benzolverband Bochum and expanded. Atmospheric and vacuum distillation were used to produce the distillates. The delivery of the raw materials and the removal of the finished products were handled via a wing track of the Badner Bahn . Towards the end of the Second World War , the factories were increasingly targeted by Allied air raids. Most of them were destroyed in the process. After the end of the war they came into the possession of the Soviet Union and were subordinated to the administration of the USIA companies. In 1946/47 the factory was repaired and could start producing again. After the Austrian State Treaty came into force , the refinery came into the possession of MARTHA Erdöl GmbH. which she leased to OMV . When the large refinery was built in Schwechat , it was shut down and dismantled in 1958.

Today there is an animal shelter of the Vienna Animal Welfare Association on the southern part . If the entire site is recycled, problems arise from the contaminated soil.
