The Rahad ( Arabic نهر الرهد Nahr ar-Rahd , also Scinfa in the upper reaches) is a seasonal tributary of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia and Sudan .

course

The river has its source in the Ethiopian highlands a few kilometers west of Lake Tana . It flows in a westerly direction. The river forms the border with Sudan over a length of about 10 km. In Sudan it borders the north of the Dinder National Park . After the border it makes a wide arc and changes its course to the northwest. The Rahad flows into the Blue Nile at Abu Haraz in the Butana steppe region , about 150 km before it reaches Khartoum .

Hydrometry

The flow rate of the river was measured for 102 years (1900–2002) at the Hawata gauge, directly at the mouth, in m³ / s.
