Raimon Obiols i Germà (born August 5, 1940 , Barcelona ) is a Spanish politician of the Catalan social democratic party PSC (a sister party of the PSOE ) and a member of the European Parliament .

After studying geology, Obiols i Germà was one of the co-founders of the PSC in 1978. From 1983 to 1996 he was their first secretary, then until 2000 party chairman. Since 1979 he has also been a member of the party executive committee of the PSOE, where he was responsible for international relations from 1994 to 2000. From 1999 to 2000 Obiols i Germà was deputy chairman of the Party of European Socialists (PES).

Obiols i Germà was a member of the Spanish Parliament from 1977 to 1984 , then in the regional parliament of Catalonia until 1999 and in the European Parliament since the 1999 European elections . Here he was Vice-Chairman of the PES Group until 2004 . He was also a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and chairman of the delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries (1999–2002) and for relations with the countries of Central America (since 2002). In 2004 he was temporarily deputy chairman of the European Parliament .
