Raimondo De Dominici (* 1645 in La Valletta , † 1705 in Rome ) was a Maltese-Italian painter.

Life

The painter, also known as Il Maltese, was a pupil of Mattia Preti as a teenager in Malta . At the age of about 20 he continued his training in Naples with Luca Giordano . The painting Vision of St. John of the Cross in the Cappella Ciccarelli of the Church of Santa Teresa in Naples from the year 1682 can certainly be assigned to him . The ceiling painting The Archangel Michael expelled Lucifer from Paradise was probably created between 1678 and 1687 for the coffered ceiling of the cathedral from Marcianise ; Another painting in the Church of San Carlo in Marcianise shows Saint Charles Borromeo talking to people suffering from the plague . Raymondo De Dominici was the father of the actor and musician Giampaolo De Dominici and the art theorist and painter Bernardo De Dominici .
