Raimund Lease

Raimund Hugo August Wilhelm Pacht (born November 27, 1822 in Wolmar , † July 14, 1854 in Saint Petersburg ) was a German-Baltic naturalist , geologist and paleontologist .

Life

Lease went to school in Dorpat and studied at the University of Dorpat from 1841 first medicine and from 1843 mineralogy and geology. In 1847 he received the candidate degree and in 1849 the master’s degree with the thesis The Devonian Lime in Livonia from the University of Dorpat. He then continued his studies in Leipzig and at the Bergakademie Freiberg and received his doctorate in Berlin in 1852 (Dr. phil.). Then Lacht taught in Novgorod, Pärnu and Dorpat, where he gave lectures on botany. In 1853 he became a curator at the Mineralogical Cabinet in St. Petersburg.

He mainly dealt with the Devonian in the Baltic Sea region and in European Russia.

Initial descriptions

In 1849, Pacht described the fossil leaf pod Asmussia membranacea and placed it in a new genus Asmussia .
