Raimund Schittenhelm

Raimund Schittenhelm (* 1947 in Wildon , Styria , Austria ) was commandant of the National Defense Academy of the Austrian Armed Forces between 2002 and 2011 , most recently with the rank of general .

Life

Raimund Schittenhelm joined the Austrian Armed Forces and completed an officer training at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt by 1970 .

He had functions as platoon and company commander as well as adjutant in the 5th Jäger Brigade. 1975 to 1978 he completed the general staff training. From 1982 to 1983 he was in command of Panzer Battalion 10 in St. Pölten - Spratzern .

Raimund Schittenhelm had several assignments in the National Defense Academy until he became head of the Adjutantur and 1st Adjutant of the Federal Minister for National Defense in 1987 . From 1990 to 1999 he was head of the cabinet in the Federal Ministry and then until 2001 Chief of Staff of Defense Minister Herbert Scheibner .

From January 2002 to June 2011 he was in command of the National Defense Academy.

He is married to Dorothea Schittenhelm and has two children. He holds the academic degree Magister (Mag.).
