Rainer Godel

Rainer Godel (born April 2, 1968 in Völklingen an der Saar) is a German German scholar and science manager.

Life

Rainer Godel studied Modern German Literature, Older German Philology and Political Science at the Universitas Saraviensis in Saarbrücken from 1987 to 1992 . Supported by a doctoral scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation , he completed his doctorate in German studies at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg in 1997 . In 1998 he worked as a knowledge manager at SIPA entrepreneur consulting in Saarbrücken and Hamburg. 1998 - 2003 and 2004 - 2005 he was a research associate at the Interdisciplinary Center for Research on the European Enlightenment; From 2005 to 2006 he conducted research at the Department of German at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Feodor Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation . In 2006 he completed his habilitation in Modern German Literature in Halle. From 2006 he acted as the scientific coordinator of the Saxony-Anhalt research focus "Enlightenment - Religion - Knowledge", interrupted by a visiting professorship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012. In 2012 he was appointed an adjunct professor for modern German literature at Martin Luther University awarded. In August 2013 he took over the management of the newly founded Center for Science Research of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina - National Academy of Sciences.

Godel's research interests include the history of knowledge and science from the early modern period to the 20th century; (Popular) philosophy, anthropology and literature in the history of culture and knowledge of the European Enlightenment; Media history of the controversy in the early modern period as well as knowledge / ignorance and literature. Since October 2010 he has been co-editor of the Herder Yearbook of the International Johann Gottfried Herder Society. Since February 2018 he has been a member of the Editorial Board of Notes and Records, since 2019 a member of the Library Committee of the Royal Society and deputy chairman of the Saxony-Anhalt regional association of the German University Association.
