Rainer Hornauer (born March 27, 1950 ) is a former German football player who played second division football in Hennigsdorf in the 1970s and 1980s .

Athletic career

From 1969 to 1971 Rainer Hornauer played with the company sports association (BSG) Motor Hennigsdorf in the third-rate district league Potsdam . For the 1971/72 season he moved to local rivals Stahl Hennigsdorf , where he was active in the second-rate GDR league until 1983 .

Hornauer started at BSG Stahl as a midfielder and was a regular player until the 1981/82 season, with the exception of the 1974/75 seasons (injured) and 1978 to 1979 ( NVA reservist service ). After he was increasingly used as a striker in the course of the 1976/77 season, he was the top scorer of BSG Stahl for the first time with 13 goals and was also the best scorer in the league season B. In this season his team won the season and took part in the promotion games to the GDR Oberliga part. Hornauer played five of the eight games, but promotion was not achieved. Hennigsdorf's top scorer was Hornauer in the 1977/78 seasons with 14 and 1980/81 with 10 goals. For the 1980/81 season he was elected as team captain and held this office until 1983. In the 1982/83 season Hornauer appeared for the last time in the league squad of BSG Stahl, intended as a midfielder. The newcomer Rüdiger Uentz took his place in the attack . Hornauer was only used in ten league games and scored only one goal.

The last GDR league season completed Hornauer 1983/84, for which he was officially no longer in the league squad. However, he was used in five league games in the first half of the season, for the last time in the 13th league game. At this point he had been the team's coach since matchday 7. In this season, the GDR league was held for the last time with five seasons, in future it only played with two seasons. Stahl Hennigsdorf reached tenth place in his season and could no longer qualify for the GDR league.
