Rainer Lösch

Rainer Lösch (born January 11, 1944 in Friedland in the Jizera Mountains ) is a German professor of botany .

Rainer Lösch studied biology , chemistry and Catholic theology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . At first he was a research assistant and assistant in Würzburg and Kiel. Since 1989 he has been Professor of Botany at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . There he is head of the geobotany department .

The main research areas of Rainer Lösch are the water balance and the production biology of plants (vegetation-atmosphere interactions). In addition, he deals with the ecological principles of plant evolutionary processes and, as a further scientific focus, with ecophysiological studies of tropical and subtropical vegetation in the Mediterranean region . He is editor of the geobotanical journal Flora (Morphology, Distribution, Functional Ecology of Plants).

In 1996 Rainer Lösch was appointed a full member of the Sudeten German Academy of Sciences and Arts , natural science class.
