Adelheid von Munzenberg
Adelheid von Münzenberg († around 1291) was a daughter of Ulrich I von Hagen-Münzenberg . Your year of birth is not known, the year of your death can be deduced from documentary records.
marriage and family
Around 1243/1245 Adelheid von Münzenberg married Reinhard I. (* approx. 1225; first mentioned: 1243; † September 20, 1281), Lord von Hanau , the progenitor of the Lords and Counts of Hanau . She brought the Babenhausen office , the Bachgau and half of the Umstadt office with her as marriage goods .
From this marriage emerged:
- Ulrich I.
- Reinhard (mentioned between 1292 and 1299)
- Adelheid, abbess of the Patershausen monastery (before 1281)
- Isengard , married to Gerhard von Weilnau after 1265 , died before 1281
Elevation of rank
Since the Hagen-Munzenberg family was "only" a ministerial family , there seems to have been doubts about Adelheid's equality . In any case, her son Ulrich later had the king confirm the status of the “ noble free ” for himself and his mother .
Munzenberg inheritance
Adelheid's only brother was Ulrich II von Munzenberg . He united the rich Munzenberg legacy in one hand. However, Adelheid had six sisters:
- Isengard, married to Count Philipp I von Falkenstein
- Mechtild, married to Engelhard von Weinsberg
- Irmengard, married to Konrad von Weinsberg
- Hedwig, married to Heinrich von Pappenheim
- Agnes, married to Konrad von Schöneberg
- Lucardis, spiritual; she was resigned to the Patershausen monastery , which had been rebuilt for her as a Cistercian and whose abbess she became.
When Ulrich II von Hagen-Münzenberg died in 1255 without descendants entitled to inheritance, the rich inheritance fell to his six secular sisters who remained. A first inheritance dispute took three years. This Munzenberg legacy was a fundamental event for the territorial development of the Wetterau and the Rhine-Main area in the High Middle Ages , which significantly shaped the territorial structure of this area for the next centuries.
The legacy consisted of the rule Münzenberg , the "county" Assenheim and the rule Hagen ( Hain in Dreieich ) and several smaller possessions and rights.
The inheritance was essentially ideally divided into six parts and administered jointly by the heirs as a condominium . Each of the sisters received a sixth. In the following years, Count Philipp I von Falkenstein bought all of the inheritance - except for the Hanauer - so that Falkenstein now owned 5/6 and Hanau 1/6 of the inheritance. In the course of time there were further inheritance divisions and purchases - in principle, however, this community of heirs remained until the mediatization of the nobility in Napoleonic times, the Munzenberg Castle as private property until the 1930s. death
Adelheid is said to have died around 1291. It was last mentioned in a document on January 3, 1290.
