Rainer Rudolph (biochemist)

Rainer Rudolph (born March 10, 1949 in Usingen ; † December 2, 2009 ) was a German chemist and protein biochemist .

Rudolph studied chemistry from 1968 to 1974 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He wrote his doctoral thesis at the University of Regensburg under the direction of Rainer Jaenicke on the folding mechanisms of glycolytic enzymes.

After a year postdoctoral stay in the USA at Cornell University , he returned to the University of Regensburg. Here he worked as a research assistant for eight years. In 1987 he took over the management of the biochemistry department of the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Mannheim . In 1995 he followed the call to a C4 professorship at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . Here he took over the management of the technical biochemistry department.

His contributions to the problem of protein folding are of scientific importance .

In 2005 Rudolph was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
