Rainer Schils (born August 20, 1944 , † August 16, 2018 in Bremen ) was a German football official and lawyer. From 1978 to 1991 he was president of FC Gütersloh .

Life

When the third-class clubs DJK Gütersloh and SVA Gütersloh merged to form FC Gütersloh in 1978 , the then 33-year-old Rainer Schils became president of the club. Schils held this office for 13 years until 1991. In 1983, the club signed Heribert Bruchhagen as a coach. In the 1983/84 season Gütersloh qualified as a champion for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the same season, the club made headlines nationwide with the net league scandal. After the club was relegated from the 2nd football in 1999 , the FCG applied for insolvency proceedings, which failed. Schils found a loophole in the statutes that allowed the new FC Gütersloh to start in the major league.

He died in Bremen at the age of 73.
