Rainer Sperl

Rainer Sperl (born October 18, 1949 in Chemnitz , Saxony ) is a German sculptor .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Upper Lusatia and work as a cabinet maker in Chemnitz, he received his drawing training from Harald Netzker in Chemnitz and also participated in his first exhibition. From 1973 he completed his studies at the college for applied arts in Heiligendamm . Already during his studies he turned intensively to plastic work. After graduating in 1976, he worked as a film architect in the DEFA studio for feature films in Potsdam-Babelsberg. In 1978 he was co-founder of the Potsdam Cabaret at the Obelisk, responsible for the equipment, stage design, costumes, posters and program.

In 1991, together with his wife Ursula, he founded the Sperl Gallery in Potsdam, where national and international contemporary artist positions are presented. He has been working as a freelancer since 1986. His work areas are sculptures, objects, material collages and art in construction.

His artistic work has developed into an inimitable style. His sculptures, a combination of materials and fired clay, are unique in their arrangements and bizarre sophistication.
