Rainer Willmann

Rainer Willmann (* 1950 ) is a German zoologist .

Life

After studying palaeontology , geology , zoology and limnology at the University of Kiel from 1969 and a diploma in geology in 1974, Willmann was awarded a doctorate in 1979. rer. nat. doctorate , in 1985 he completed his habilitation.

From 1985 to 1990 he was a Heisenberg fellow of the German Research Foundation . From 1988 to 1990 he mainly worked at the British Museum (Natural History), London. From 1990 he worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Kiel, and in 1993 he was appointed to the chair of zoology at the University of Göttingen . There Willmann holds the chair for morphology , systematics and evolutionary biology at the Institute for Zoology and Anthropology Göttingen and director of the zoological museum there .

In 1999/2000 he was dean of the Biological Faculty of the University of Göttingen and initiator and co-founder of the Göttingen Center for Biodioversity Research and Ecology.

Willmann is editor of the journal Species, Phylogeny and Evolution .
