Rainford Kalaba (born August 14, 1986 in Mufulira ) is a Zambian national soccer player .

Club career

Kalaba rose in 2004 with Afrisports in the Zambian Premier League and moved in the summer of 2005 on loan to the French club OGC Nice . There he came only sporadically to appearances in the reserve team and Nice refrained from another commitment of the midfielder after one season.

Back in Zambia, he played at ZESCO United , as his home club Afrisports had to relegate back to the second division at the end of the 2005 season. 2007 Kalaba rose to the outstanding player of the Zambian league. At the age of 21, he led ZESCO to the national triple by winning the national championship and two of the most important cup competitions. With 13 goals this season, he was also the best scorer and was also voted Zambia's Footballer of the Year at the end of the year.

In March 2008 he signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese first division club Sporting Braga , but was initially awarded for a year to the second division club Gil Vicente FC . Afrisports, which still held the transfer rights, is said to have received around 100,000 euros as a transfer fee.

National team

Kalaba has been a fixture on the Zambian national team since his debut in 2005 . In 2006 he won the regional competitions of COSAFA and CECAFA with the national team . In 2006 and 2008 he was also part of the Zambian squad for the Africa Cup of Nations , but failed with Zambia in both events in the preliminary round. In 2010 he was eliminated with the national team in the quarter-finals, in 2012 Rainford Kalaba was African champion with Zambia . On June 10, 2017, he played his 100th international match .
