Rainier II (Monaco)
Rainier II. Or Raniero II Grimaldi (* 1350 ; † 1407 ) from the Grimaldi family was a French seigneur of Menton and Roquebrune and military.
Rainier II was the son of the Lord of Monaco Charles I.
After his father was defeated in the fighting for Monaco in 1357 against the Genoese and died, Rainier reached an agreement with Genoa on August 9, 1357: He should be allowed to keep the castles and property of his father, Monaco against a payment of 20,000 Cede florines to Genoa. Like his grandfather Raniero Grimaldi , Rainier was expelled from Monaco.
Rainier went into French service as a soldier. In 1369 he was appointed chambellan , chamberlain, by Charles V. He died in exile in 1407.
Rainier II had three sons with his wife Isabelle:
