Rainroom is a Finnish progressive death doom band from Espoo that was formed in 2003.

history

The band was founded in late 2003 by guitarist Jere Ralli and singer JP Eloranta after their previous band Dewian split up. Later that year they worked together on the first songs, with Ralli living with Eloranta as the former would otherwise have been homeless. This resulted in six songs that were put together for the later album Netherself . In 2006 bassist Oskari Hakala-Rahko, who had just left the band Vanguard , joined the two-man line-up. The album was then recorded and released in 2006. After the recordings, Ralli and Eloranta had written on more material that would have been enough for a second album, but only three songs were recorded, resulting in the EP Monochrome of Feathers . During the rehearsals for this, the Frisian Jelle Van Der Beek was added. In the studio recordings for the EP, however, Teemu Laitinen was represented on drums. The EP was released in summer 2007. The next album was recorded in 2008. 2010 Hakala-Rahko left the cast and was replaced by Kim Suikkanen. In March 2011 the next album And the Other That Was a Machine was released via Firedoom Music ...

style

According Prog Sothoth of progarchives.com the band initially played melodic death metal before it had soon given experimental, by slowing the tempo and chord - progressions in the style of Opeth have introduced in the 1990s. This creates a kind of Death Doom with strong guttural vocals, dark melodic riffs and quite long songs. Martin "666tin" aisslinger of terrorverlag.com ordered And the Other That Was A Machine ... to the death-doom that one as an " avant -looking mixture of Doom Metal - riffs and a host of tricky tempo and rhythm changes" can view. The latter would be close to Opeth, although Rainroom avoids “painting epic pictures full of luxuriant beauty”, rather the music seems chilled and threatening, which indicates that elements from Death and Black -Metal be present. The singing consists of growls . Occasionally, influences from post-rock are incorporated into the songs . You can compare the band, albeit insufficiently, with groups like Ghost Brigade , The Old Dead Tree and End of Level Boss .
