The Old Dead Tree is a French Metal - band with influences from the gothic metal and progressive metal .

Band history

The band was founded in 1997 by the two guitarists Nicolas Chevrollier and Manuel Munoz, who is also responsible for the alternating clear and guttural vocals . In 1999 the drummer Frédéric Guillemot and the bassist Vincent Danhier joined them and completed the band. Her first EP The Blossom was released that same year. A few months later, on August 2, 1999, Frédéric Guillemot committed suicide.

The free space on the drums was occupied by Frank Métayer, with whom the 2002 debut album The Nameless Disease was recorded, a concept album that is dedicated to coming to terms with the loss of her boyfriend. Following the release, the bands played some local gigs with bands like Katatonia , Opeth and Paradise Lost .

The second album The Perpetual Motion followed in the summer of 2005 , on which Frank Métayer no longer took part. He had left the band the year before for personal reasons and had been replaced by Foued Moukid. As with The Nameless Disease before, the album was produced by Andy Classen . The release was followed by a European tour with Epica and some headlining appearances in France.

In May 2006 guitarist, co-founder and upcoming father Nicolas Chevrollier announced his departure. His place was taken by Gilles Moinet, the main composer of the doom metal band Lux Incerta .

In July 2007, the band began recording their third album, The Water Fields , in Andy Classen's Stage One studio , which was released on September 17th.

The band announced a new album in 2008, which is expected to be recorded in winter 2009. We are already working on the texts.

On November 9, 2009, Manuel Munoz announced the breakup of the band. According to his statement, the reasons for this were differences of opinion about the musical direction and obligation.

At the end of 2012 the band probably got together again. The official homepage and the profiles in social media were updated and an appearance at the HELLFEST Summer Open Air 2013 was announced via newsletter and information on the homepage. According to information in the official newsletter, further concerts will follow in 2013, which will be announced at a later date. With The End , a new EP was released in 2019, the songs of which, however, were written before the debut album from 2002 and were recorded and released again in honor of Guillemot.
