Map excerpt from The Imperial Gazetteer of India |
Rairakhol was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Odisha . Its capital was the place Rampur . In 1901 the little country had an area of 2157 km² and 27,000 inhabitants.
The Rajas - Rathore - Rajputs - were related to those of Seraikella , Kharsawan and Bonai . Until the time of the Marathas Wars , Rairakhol was under the sovereignty of Bamra . From 1827 to 1947 it was an independent British protectorate . It was under the Central Provinces until 1905 . Like four other predominantly Oriya-speaking principalities , it then became part of the Orissa Feudatory States .
The last Raja joined the Eastern States Union in August 1947 . On January 1, 1948, this union was dissolved and Rairakhol was incorporated into Orissa (Odisha) and India . On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved.
