Princely state of Bonai in The Imperial Gazetteer of India |
Bonai was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Odisha . Its capital was the place Bonaigarh .
The Rajas - Rathore Rajputs - were related to those of Seraikela , Kharsawan and Rairakhol . Until the time of the Marathas , Bonai was under the sovereignty of Sambalpur , in 1803 it was ceded to the British, returned to the Marathas in 1818 and finally came under British sovereignty in 1826. 1827-1947 Bonai was an independent British protectorate . It was under the province of Bengal until 1905 , then Orissa and in 1892 had an area of 8907 km² and 24,000 inhabitants.
The last Raja joined the Eastern States Union in August 1947 . On January 1, 1948, this union was dissolved and Bonai was incorporated into Orissa ( Odisha ) and thus India . On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved.
