Raisen is a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . The city is located in the center of the state and is also close to the geographic center of India.
The city is the administrative center of the Raisen district of the same name . Raisen has municipal council status . The city is divided into 18 wards (constituencies).
Demographics
The city's population is 44,162 according to the 2011 census. Raisen has a gender ratio of 922 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 82.0% in 2011 and thus above the regional and national average. Almost 74% of the population are Hindus , approx. 25% are Muslims and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 13.8% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
