The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is a cricket stadium in Hyderabad , India . It was named after the Indian politician Rajiv Gandhi . The stadium was built in 2003 and replaced the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium as the home stadium of the Hyderabad Cricket Association . The stadium is the venue for international test matches and one-day internationals .
Capacity and infrastructure
The stadium opened in 2004 and can accommodate 55,000 visitors. The 6 floodlight masts were installed in April 2007. The two wicket ends are called Pavilion End and North End .
International cricket
The first ODI in this stadium between India and South Africa took place in November 2005, the first international test match between India and New Zealand took place in November 2010.
National cricket
In national cricket, it provides a home for the Hyderabad Cricket Association team. In the Indian Premier League it was first used by the Deccan Chargers before the franchise was replaced by the Sunrisers Hyderabad .
