Rajiv Shah
Rajiv Shah (born March 9, 1973 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American medical doctor and civil servant. He has been the head of the US agency for international development USAID since 2010 .
Life
Shah was born the son of Indian immigrants in Michigan, USA. He grew up in Detroit . Shah studied medicine and economics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and also in London at the London School of Economics . He then worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for several years, where, among other things, he headed a vaccination program and the department for agricultural research. In 2009 he was appointed under-secretary of state at the US Department of Agriculture and in January 2010 he was appointed as the official successor to Henrietta H. Fore as head of the US state aid organization USAID, which has an annual budget of $ 22 billion and around 3,900 employees.
