Rajmohan Gandhi (* 1935 in New Delhi ) is an Indian journalist, author, politician and professor. He is a grandson of Mahatma Gandhi .

Rajmohan Gandhi is the eldest of four sons of the renowned Indian journalist and editor of the Hindustan Times Devdas Gandhi , the fourth son of Mahatma Gandhi , and Laxmiben Gandhi, the daughter of C. Rajagopalachari , freedom fighter and first governor-general of independent India.

His brother Gopalkrishna Gandhi has been governor of West Bengal since 2004 . His brother Ramchandra Gandhi was a well-known philosopher, author and professor.

Life

Rajmohan Gandhi is a journalist and politician. He is a professor at the Center for Policy Studies in New Delhi and has written a lot on the Indian independence movement and its leaders, Indo-Pakistani relations, human rights and conflict resolution.

He has lectured as visiting professor in the United States and Japan . He received honorary doctorates from universities in Canada , Japan and Kyrgyzstan . Rajmohan Gandhi was an elected member of the upper house of the Indian Parliament and led the Indian government delegation to the annual meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva .

The biography of his world-famous grandfather, " The Good Boatman: A Portrait of Gandhi ", written by him, was published in 1995, followed in 1997 by that of his maternal grandfather - long-time comrade of the former: " Rajaji: A Life of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari ".

Other of his works deal with Vallabhbhai Patel , the relations between Hindus and Muslims ("Eight Lives: A Study of the Hindu-Muslim Encounter") and the history of South Asia ("Revenge and Reconciliation: Understanding South Asian History")

From 2000 to 2012 he was a member of the jury of the International Nuremberg Human Rights Award .
