Ralf Claus

Ralf Claus (* 28. October 1960 in Ingelheim am Rhein ) is a German politician of the SPD and since 2012 mayor of Ingelheim.

Life

Ralf Claus grew up in the Ober-Ingelheim district . After graduating from the Sebastian-Münster-Gymnasium in 1979, he studied political science, journalism and law at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . At first he worked as an editor for a business information service. He had been a member of Ingelheim's city council since 1989, and was also chairman of the SPD in his hometown for six years. After becoming a volunteer councilor for labor and social affairs in 1998, Claus was promoted to full-time mayor in Ingelheim the following year. In January 2012, he succeeded Joachim Gerhard (CDU) as Lord Mayor, which he held for 16 years until his retirement. On May 26, 2019, he was re-elected for another term of office at the same time as the municipal elections taking place throughout Rhineland-Palatinate .

In his role as Lord Mayor, Claus is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ingelheim Training Center and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fridtjof Nansen Academy for Political Education. He is married, has two children and lives in Ober-Ingelheim.
