Andreas Heege

Andreas Heege (* 1957 in Wattenscheid ) is a medieval and modern archaeologist . He has both German and Swiss citizenship and lives in Switzerland.

Life

education

Heege completed an apprenticeship as a prehistorian with a focus on the Neolithic , Metal Ages , early and high Middle Ages at the Universities of Cologne and Bonn under Gernot Jacob-Friesen , Jens Lüning , Gerhard Bosinski , Hermann Schwabedissen , Wolfgang Taute and Volker Bierbrauer . In his master's thesis he dealt with the subject of the grave finds from the Merovingian era from Heidenheim-Großkuchen . His dissertation is entitled Hambach 500. Villa rustica and early to high medieval settlement of Wüstweiler (Niederzier municipality), Düren district.

Professional activity

After graduating, he worked as an assistant at the seminar for prehistory and early history at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and as a city archaeologist in Einbeck , Lower Saxony. As a result of his work there, an exhibition and the publication “Einbeck in the Middle Ages. An archaeological-historical search for traces ”.

Since 2002 Andreas Heege has been working as a freelance archaeologist and scientific author for the company "Archäo-Service" in Zug , as well as for Archeology Switzerland , the Canton Archeology Schaffhausen, the Canton Archeology Zug and the municipality Bäriswil . He worked as a research assistant and editor in the Archaeological Service of the Canton of Bern.

From 2011 to 2014 Heege was a research assistant at the State Archeology of the Principality of Liechtenstein, where he was responsible for evaluating the finds from the “Kirchhügel Bendern ” excavation , which have now been published. Between January 1, 2014 and September 21, 2017, he and Andreas Kistler from Bäriswil supervised the documentation and evaluation project " Langnau Ceramics " on behalf of the municipality of Langnau im Emmental . In 2015, an evaluation of the medieval and modern ceramics of the bathing district of Baden in Aargau followed on behalf of the Canton Archeology of Aargau. In 2015/2016 he worked on the entire inventory of Swiss-German ceramics in the Musée Ariana in Geneva as the basis for the exhibition "Schnaps et Rösti". Since June 2017 he has been evaluating ceramics from the Lötscher pottery in St. Antönien in Prättigau , Canton of Graubünden . The research results will appear in April 2018 on the occasion of an exhibition in the Rätisches Museum Chur .

On the occasion of his 60th birthday, Andreas Heege received a commemorative publication in 2017 with the title “From a find to a book - Archeology through the ages”. The publication appeared in two forms as a printed book and as a special volume in the online journal Historische Archäologie der Universität Kiel.

Since April 2018 Andreas Heege has taken over the project CERAMICA CH - National Ceramic Inventory of Switzerland (1500-1950) and is currently preparing a free, internet-based image database, which was activated on December 1, 2019. It will initially include the cantons NE, SO, VD and GR. In addition, all ceramics from Bäriswil BE, Langnau BE and St. Antönien GR that are in public collections will be activated.

Research priorities

Heege's main research interests include material culture from the early Middle Ages to the 20th century. There is particular interest in research into the pottery , pottery ovens and ceramics in Germany and Switzerland. In addition, he is interested in researching everyday life and material culture in the Middle Ages and modern times. He has a particular interest in the linking of archival and archaeological information in the sense of historical archeology . His hobbies include researching tobacco pipes (clay pipes) in Germany and Switzerland , collecting photos with vinegar bottles made of stoneware and ceramics from Bäriswil , Langnau and St. Antönien in Prättigau. Andreas Heege has long been associated with the International Ceramic Research Working Group .
