The Musée Ariana , also known as the Musée suisse de la céramique et du verre (Swiss Museum of Ceramics and Glass), is a museum in the Swiss city of Geneva . It is dedicated to ceramic and glass art and includes around 20,000 objects from around seven centuries from around 1300 to the present, which represent the historical, geographical, artistic and technical breadth of glass and ceramic production in this period. The exhibition is one of the most important institutions in Europe in this area and is the only one of its kind in Switzerland.

The museum is located in a building built between 1877 and 1884 according to plans by the architect Emile Grobéty and characterized by elements of neoclassicism and neo - baroque on Geneva Avenue de la Paix near the Palais des Nations , the European headquarters of the United Nations . It was created for the safekeeping of the private collection of the Swiss art collector and patron Gustave Revilliod , who named it after his mother Ariane de la Rive and gave it to the city of Geneva in 1891 with the 36 hectare property . Since 1934, the museum has been part of the association of the Geneva art and history museums ( Les Musées d'art et d'histoire Geneve ) under the leadership of the Musée d'art et d'histoire .

Subsequently, parts of the Revilliods collection were outsourced to other museums in the city, from which in return a number of exhibits were transferred to the Musée Ariana in order to focus the exhibition on glass and ceramics. In 1993 the museum reopened after twelve years of construction.
