Ralf Groene

Ralf Groene (* 1968 in Wolfsburg ) is a German industrial designer . Since 2015 he has been Head of Industrial Design Microsoft Device and responsible for Microsoft Surface .

Live and act

Ralf Groene is a trained toolmaker. From 1992 to 1997, Groene successfully completed a degree in industrial design at the Muthesius Art College in Kiel . Before that, he worked as a designer at Interform Design in Wolfsburg from 1988 to 1990 . He did an internship at the New York company Teague . While still studying, Groene emigrated to the United States, where he worked as an industrial designer for various companies such as Palo Alto Design Group , frog design and IDEO from 1996 . In 2006 he moved to Microsoft , where he was promoted to Head of Industrial Design Microsoft Device in 2015 .

Groene's design philosophy is heavily influenced by Bauhaus . Among other things, he designed the Rocket eBook, one of the first e-book readers, at the end of the 1990s . When he switched to Microsoft, the Arc Touch Mouse was his first project. With the design of the Microsoft Surface , Ralf Groene finally established himself at Microsoft, where he was promoted to Head of Industrial Design Microsoft Device in 2015 . He is thus responsible for all design decisions for all Microsoft products.
