Ralf Littke

Ralf Littke (born August 20, 1957 in Essen ) is a German geologist who deals with the geology and geochemistry of coal and petroleum.

Life

Littke studied geology from 1976 at the Ruhr University Bochum , with a diploma in 1981 and a doctorate in 1985. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Petroleum and Organic Geochemistry at the Research Center Jülich , from 1993 as deputy director. In 1993 he completed his habilitation in Bochum and has been a full professor at RWTH Aachen University since 1997 . From 2010 to 2012 he was also the university's senator.

Littke deals with the mechanisms of the formation and storage of hydrocarbons (crude oil, natural gas, coal) in rocks. He is editor of the International Journal of Coal Geology and Associate Editor of the Journal of Petroleum Geology .

Littke is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Acatech . From 2011 to 2013 he chaired the council of the German Geo Research Center and from 2011 to 2014 he was chairman of the Geological Association .
