from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ralf T. Münnich (* 1964 ) is a German business mathematician . He is a survey statistician, graduate mathematician and has held the professorship for economic and social statistics at the University of Trier since February 15, 2006 . Münnich's main research areas are sampling , variance estimation and data quality in complex surveys. This means the quality measurement of statistical surveys.

Life

Münnich received his doctorate in 1996 with the subject of bound extrapolation in sample surveys with the help of splines at the chair for statistics, econometrics and business research under Eberhard Schaich at the University of Tübingen . There he took over the position of the Academic Council until 2005 and in this function completed his habilitation in statistics and operations research in 2005 with his habilitation thesis Variance Estimation in Complex Samples .

The Chair of Economic and Social Statistics at the University of Trier and the Mannheim Center for Surveys, Methods and Analyzes , under Münnich's leadership, were commissioned by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Statistical Office in preparation for the register-based census 2011 to research a methodology for the associated sample survey.

A sample plan was developed that combines moderate costs and low survey effort with high-quality information from the census. For this purpose, new survey methods were researched and tested for their practical applicability. The project ended in 2010 and the results were published in 2012.
