The Rallier Island ( French Îlot Rallier du Baty ) is a small island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Wilhelm Archipelago , it is 350 m west of the northwestern extension of Booth Island , from which it is separated by the Rallier Canal . In front of its north side lies another, previously unnamed island.
They were discovered by participants in the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903-1905) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named the island after the French polar explorer Raymond Rallier du Baty (1881-1978), then a cadet of the French merchant navy , who had been hired as a sailor on Charcot's ship Français on this research trip .
