List of apple varieties |
Ralls , Ralls Genet or Ralls Janet is a variety of the cultivated apple .
The name Genet probably comes from Edmond-Charles Genêt , a French ambassador to the United States during the French Revolution .
The pomologist Spencer A. Beach is said to have written about this variety in 1905, saying that it was first seen more than 100 years earlier at M. Caleb Ralls in Amherst, Virginia .
description
Fruit The apple is medium-sized and has a rounded shape with flattened ends. The greenish yellow shell is flooded, marbled, streaked with various shades of pink, red and purple over half or more of the surface. Noticeable yellow or reddish yellow and white spots and russeting can appear all over the fruit. The yellowish flesh with a greenish tone is crunchy, juicy, tender with a sweet and sour taste. When cut, it gives off a sweet aroma. It ripens in the first week of October and is easy to store.
Tree Moderately strong trees with open, branched branches. The tree requires little maintenance, but is prone to apple scab and anthracnose .
