Ralph Olinger

Ralph Olinger (born December 17, 1924 in Engelberg ; † June 25, 2006 ) was a Swiss ski racer . He was active in the 1940s and especially successful in the downhill .

Career

Olinger was a member of the Engelberg Ski Club . Between 1947 and 1949 he was Swiss downhill champion three times in a row . At the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , hopes for a medal seemed to have burst after a serious fall in training. On February 2, 1948, however, he won the bronze medal on the descent at the same time as his compatriot Karl Molitor .

Two years later he was a member of the Swiss national ski team at the World Championships in Oslo , where he achieved ninth place in the downhill as the best result.
