Ralph from Battle
Ralph von Battle also called Ralph von Caen, Ralph von Rochester and Rodulfus monachus, (* 1040 in Normandy , † 29 August 1124 in Battle near Hastings ) was an abbot and an author of theological, philosophical and spiritual writings. He was a student of Lanfrank of Bec and Anselms of Canterbury .
In 1114 the bishop was elected abbot by the monks of Canterbury monastery , this was confirmed by King Henry I and the Sprengel ; only Pope Paschal II refused to confirm this for several years, as this had not been agreed with him beforehand.
A bilingual edition, Latin - German, of Dialogues on Philosophical Theology has appeared as Volume 16 in the second series of Herder's Library of Medieval Philosophy .
