The Ramal Afonso Arinos is a historic railway line in the provinces of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais in Brazil . It connected the EFCB - Linha do Centro with the Ramal de Jacutinga .

history

The Ramal Afonso Arinos was completed by the railway company EF Rio das Flore in 1882 and connected the Commercio (Sebastião de Lacerda) train station on the EFCB - Linha do Centro with the region around Santa Teresa (Rio das Flores), in what was then the Valença district . The railway line ended in Três Ilhas and from here the passengers and goods were brought by horse-drawn carriages to the Paraibuna station, which was located at the EFCB - Linha do Centro . It was not until 1910, when the line was taken over by the Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil , that it was merged with the Ramal de Jacutinga of the EFCB - Linha Auxiliar . From 1922 this track was called Ramal de Afonso Arinos and went from Valença to Afonso Arinos. In 1965 this railway line was shut down and the tracks were later removed.
