Overview of the Linha Central railway line and branch lines of the EFCB

The Ramal da Ponte Nova is a historic railway line in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. It was built as a siding to the EFCB - Linha do Centro railway line for Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil .

history

The siding of Ponte Nova was built between 1887 and 1888 from the Burnier railway station to Ouro Preto (the provincial capital at the time). Only later, in the years 1914 to 1926, was the railway line extended to Ponte Nova. Up until 1980 there were mixed freight and passenger trains going there. In the meantime, however, this siding has been completely shut down.
