Rana Raslan ( Hebrew רנא רסלאן ; * 1977 in Israel ) is a former Israeli beauty queen .

Life

Raslan grew up with several siblings in a secular family in Haifa . In 1999 she was elected Miss Israel as the first Arab Israeli woman . Your election caused a sensation in Israel and the Arab states. Jewish nationalists criticized that a woman of Arab origin could not represent Israel because Israel was a Jewish state. Islamists, on the other hand, accused her of being un-Islamic because she wore a bikini like everyone else during the beauty pageant.
