Randa Kassis ( Arabic رندة قسيس, DMG Randa Qassīs , born October 8, 1970 in Damascus ) is a French - Syrian politician and a leading secular figure in the Syrian opposition .

She is the president of the Astana Political Platform of the Syrian opposition and founder of the Pluralist Society Movement . She was a member of the Syrian National Council until August 2012. Kassis is the former president of the coalition of secular and democratic Syrians . The coalition of secular and democratic Syrians, the core of a secular and democratic Syrian opposition, was formed by the union of twelve Muslim, Christian, Arab and Kurdish parties that called on the minorities in Syria to fight against the government of Bashar al-Assad to support.

Kassis is also an anthropologist and journalist . She published a book called "Crypts of the Gods," which deals with religions, their origins and how they work. Since the beginning of the civil war in Syria on March 15, 2011, she has been a leading commentator on the Syrian conflict and the greater complexities of the Arab Spring and the future of the Middle East .

Kassis participated in the Geneva peace talks in 2016 under the banner of the Moscow / Astana groups. She is co-president with Qadri Jamil from the Syrian secular and democratic opposition delegation. She has been criticized by other opposition members for advocating a political transition in collaboration with Bashar al-Assad's regime and for supporting Russian intervention in the civil war.

At the invitation of the Center of Political and Foreign Affairs , Kassis met Donald Trump Jr. in October 2016 to discuss solutions to the Syrian conflict.

In January 2018, Kassis took part in the Russian-hosted Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi as a leading representative of the opposition.
