Randoald
Randoald († 675 near Moutier , Canton Bern , Switzerland) was a monk in the Moutier-Grandval monastery and is a martyr and saint of the Roman Catholic Church.
Life
Very little is known about Randoald's life. He was prior or librarian in the Moutier-Grandval monastery. When Duke Eticho of Alsace subjugated the area in the Delsberg Basin , stole the poor and robbed monasteries in 675 , Randoald wanted to act as mediator together with Germanus (the abbot of the Moutier-Grandval monastery). On the way back to the monastery he was killed by the duke's supporters. He is therefore considered a martyr.
His feast day is February 21st (together with St. Germanus von Granfelden). He is especially venerated in the canton of Jura and in the Bernese Jura, where streets are named after him.
