Rannu is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Aseri ( Aseri vald ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 159 inhabitants (as of 2011). It was first mentioned in 1241 in the Danish tax book, the Waldemar-Erdbuch . The history of the settlement is probably much older.

In 1786 a peasant school was founded in Rannu. The youngest stone school building was built between 1908 and 1910. Lessons were held there until 1961.

Johannes Käbin (1905–1999), an Estonian politician and communist, came from Rannu.
