Until 1581 the estate was owned by the noble Baltic German family Lode . After the Livonian War , it fell to the Swedish crown in the 16th century. From the 17th to the 20th century, ownership often changed hands.
In the course of the Estonian land reform , the estate was expropriated in 1919 and the land was divided among the local farmers. Today only a few historical buildings remain on the estate.
Aseri factory
The fishing village of Aseri experienced a large increase in population with the industrialization of the region at the end of the 19th century. Between 1899 and 1905, one of the first cement factories in Estonia was built in Aseri . The decisive factor was the area's soil, which was favorable for its production. The founder of the corporation was the district administrator and owner of the estates of Aseri and Koogu , the Baltic German Hermann Otto Schilling. The stock company Asserien had a share capital of 1.5 million gold rubles. Gradually, factory buildings, workers' accommodation, a power station and a modern water system were built on the site. Shortly before the outbreak of World War I , the number of workers was almost a thousand. The cement factory was closed in 1928. The ruins of some buildings can still be seen today.
After Estonia gained independence, the Saue brickworks were founded in Aseri in 1922 . In 1935/37 the larger stock corporation Riiklikud Tellisetehased was added, which also produced bricks.
In 1939 a pier was built near Aseri on the Baltic Sea, which was used to export the building material. The main customers were Finland and Sweden . A small narrow-gauge railway ran from the Sonda train station to the port .
