Aseri rural commune ( Aseri vald ) is a former rural commune in Ida-Viru County in northeast Estonia .

Aseri is about 30 km from the town of Kohtla-Järve . The rural community is located directly on the Gulf of Finland .
The area of the rural community is 67.1 km². 1956 inhabitants live there (as of January 10, 2012).
30% of the community area is covered by forest. The untouched nature invites you to go hiking, especially on the Baltic coast .
Villages
In addition to the main town Aseri , the rural community includes the villages Aseriaru , Kalvi , Kestla , Koogu , Kõrkküla , Kõrtsialuse , Oru and Rannu .
history
The first settlements in the area were mentioned in a document as early as 1241 in the Liber Census Daniae .
After the toponym Aseri, the aristocratic family Asserien, mentioned in documents from 1396 at the latest and extinguished in the 17th century, also called themselves .
Aseri only achieved special economic importance through a cement factory, which was built between 1899 and 1905, and through the Saue brick factory (from 1920).
Culture and sights
The Kalvi manor is particularly worth seeing . The current main building was erected between 1908 and 1914. It was renovated at the beginning of 2000 by a Danish company and converted into a luxury hotel.
