Raphaël Fumet

Raphaël Fumet (born May 31, 1898 in Juilly , Département Seine-et-Marne , † 1979 in Angers ) was a French composer and organist .

Raphaël Fumet's father was the composer and organist Dynam-Victor Fumet (1867–1949). Fumet studied at the Paris Schola Cantorum with Vincent d'Indy . He also worked as a silent film companion in Parisian cinemas. He later moved to Juilly in the Seine-et-Marne department, where he was director of the college there for ten years. In 1940 he moved to Angers with his family. There he taught piano and harmony at the conservatory and worked as an organist at the Church of St. Joseph.

Fumet's compositional oeuvre includes symphonic works (including the large-scale Symphonie de l'âme ), organ and piano compositions, and chamber music (including several works for flute, which were mainly written for his son, the flutist Gabriel Fumet ). Not to be assigned to any contemporary school, his music received little attention throughout his life. Ten years after his death, Jean-Paul Imbert recorded a CD with organ works by Raphaël Fumet and his father. In the meantime, there are also some other compositions on record.
