Raphael Wilder
Raphael Wilder (born May 8, 1953 in Kfar Saba ) is a German / Israeli basketball coach .
career
Wilder, who moved from Israel to Germany with his parents at the age of 13, was the coach of Maccabi Düsseldorf from 1989 to 2001 and at times also chairman of the club as well as department head and cashier. He led the team as a coach from the district class to the first regional league.
In 2001 Wilder moved to BSG Grevenbroich together with several Maccabi players . He had negotiated a syndicate with the Grevenbroich officials, which was then immediately dissolved. With this move, Maccabi's playing rights were transferred to Grevenbroich, so that Wilder and the BSG (up until then in the 2nd regional league) could start in the first regional league. He led Grevenbroich to the top group of the league and in the 2002/03 game year to promotion to the 2nd basketball league and to winning the WBV Cup. Wilder remained coach in Grevenbroich until relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga.
For the 2007/08 season he took up the position of coach at the Schwelmer Baskets . In 2008, Schwelm was WBV Cup winner under Wilder's direction, in 2009 he led the team back to the cup triumph and in 2010 as champion to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . In the 2nd Bundesliga ProB, Schwelm was a new league champion in 2011 in the northern season before they were eliminated in the first playoff round. In 2013, Wilder was ProB runner-up with Schwelm after he went into the playoffs with the team as champions of the northern season. In 2014 Wilder led the team to the playoff semifinals of the 2nd Bundesliga ProB.
In May 2014 he accepted the coaching position at FC Schalke 04 . In 2015, S04 won the WBV-Pokal under his leadership and in 2016 rose to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB as champions of the first Regionalliga West. In the 2017/18 season, Wilder led FC Schalke to the semi-finals of the ProB playoffs. Since Elchingen did not apply for a ProA license, Wilder rose to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA with Schalke as a successor . After the rise, his contract in Gelsenkirchen was extended. Working as a trainer in the ProA has always been one of his career goals, said Wilder on the occasion of the agreement with Schalke. On December 6, 2019, he was released from his position as head coach by FC Schalke, the club initially did not give a reason for the decision. At the time of the separation, the team was tenth in the middle of the table with four wins and seven defeats. A few days later, Schalke announced that the separation had occurred because of "different views on the sporting direction".
